Window Seal Failure

Discoloration resulting from seal failure
Fogging and discoloration can happen as the result of a seal failure.  All new, energy efficient windows are manufactured with insulating gas between the panes.  When the window seal breaks gas escapes and air penetrates between the panes.  The ensuing chemical reaction between the air and glass can cause discoloration and condensation to develop.

Make sure that any new window you purchase has a warranty covering the replacement parts necessary to repair a seal failure.  If a seal failure cannot be repaired the window will probably have to be replaced.

Signs That Your Fiber-Cement Siding Was Badly Installed and Possibility of Fascia Water Damage

There should always be gaps between Hardie (or any other fiber-cement siding) and water channels (i.e. gutters, roof, ground) to prevent water damage like this; as you can see from the first image, whoever did the exterior work ran the gutter right smack into the side of the house. Continual exposure to rainwater eventually caused the fascia to bubble and crack.
